Thinking outside the square recently resulted in sixteen Sunshine Coast La Chaîne members enjoying a virtual wine tasting in the midst of Covid regulations.

 

This was achieved using Zoom technology and at home hosting. Two couples, Leon and Bindy Naus and Simone and Rob Lee hosted a light lunch for eight participants in their respective homes whilst simultaneously participating in a Zoom video link up with Ben Hirsch from Hirsch Hill Estate winery in Victoria’s Yara Valley.

 

Firstly, Ben outlined this family run boutique winery’s history.  The winery produces world class varieties and is very eager to adapt and explore new and innovative practices.

 

Participants were then treated to six different tasting wines - 2019 Pinot Noir Rosé, 2017 Chardonnay, 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2017 Reserve Shiraz, 2017 Shiraz and a 2015 Shiraz.

 

Via Zoom Ben explained the qualities of each variety and there ensued a live conversation by Ben with the attendees. Opinions and wine flowed with each of the tastings, which were well received.

 

Also, participants appreciated Hirsch Hill’s discounted buying offer of these wines, which was coordinated by the hosts. Thank you to the efforts of all involved that made this event memorable and successful.
